Poker Betting Structures

Poker is very popular these days, especially with more and more online poker sites now offering different variations of poker. Aside from the common poker variations widely available at top poker rooms, you will also see different poker betting structures used. Before you get started, make sure you understand the different types of poker betting structures.

The most common poker betting structure is no-limit poker, especially since no-limit Texas Hold’em is currently the most popular variation of poker around the world. No-limit betting structure means you can raise the bet without limit; a simple game of £2/£4 no-limit Hold’em poker can have the pot amount raised all the way to a couple of thousands in a matter of minutes.

Limit or fixed-limit poker games are no less interesting. Each table has a predetermined set of betting limits that players must follow. In a game of £2/£4 fixed-limit Hold’em poker, for example, you can only bet or raise £2 during the first several betting rounds and you can bet or raise £4 on the last betting round.

We also have spread-limit poker games. Spread-limit means the betting limits are set within a certain range. If the game if using a £1-£5 spread-limit, you can bet or raise by any amount as long as it is within the predetermined range. If another player raises the bet before you, you can only raise the bet by the same amount or higher.

Last but not least, we have pot-limit poker games. As the name suggests, pot-limit games come with the betting limited to the amount of pot money.
